What We Do

The Alliance for the Arts is the official nonprofit fundraising arm of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza’s Performing Arts Center which consists of the 1,800-seat Fred Kavli Theatre and the 394-seat Janet and Ray Scherr Forum Theatre located in beautiful downtown Thousand Oaks.

The funding of the performing arts center is successful due to a unique public-private partnership between the City of Thousand Oaks and the Alliance for the Arts which as been lauded twice by the National Endowment for the Arts as the most successful public-private partnership of its kind in the country.

The center boasts over 300,000 patrons, of whom 50,000 are children, who attend more than 400 performances annually. Funding through the Alliance for the Arts provides funds for the Theatres operations and maintenance, arts education access and outreach for underserved children and seniors, funding for over 30 nonprofit performing arts groups who would otherwise not get the opportunity to perform and continuing education arts scholarships.

In addition, pro-bono marketing and media services are provided by the Alliance for the Arts to promote performances and special events. Funds are raised by the Alliance for the Arts through a dedicated Board of Directors, the Angels of the Alliance auxiliary, special events, annual memberships, major gift societies and naming opportunities.

The names of major and mega benefactors grace the property of the Civic Arts Plaza in perpetuity to represent the endowments which have been put into place by the Alliance for the Arts in perpetuity to support the performing arts center and related programs.

The most notable benefactors include: Bank of America, Mary and Richard Carpenter, Fred Kavli, Beverly and Bill Dallas and Janet and Ray Scherr.
