Amgen Tour of California Returns to Thousand Oaks

The largest professional athletic event of its kind in the United States will return to the Conejo Valley on Sunday, May 23, 2010.   The inaugural Amgen Tour of California, patterned after the Tour de France, opened with an eight-day run from the San Francisco to the Los Angeles area.  That year, the more than 650-mile event included a stage at the Amgen Campus in Thousand Oaks with some 50,000 spectators in attendance.

Top-name cyclists including Lance Armstrong, three-time race winner Levi Leipheimer and David Zabriskie, who placed second last year, are expected to join in the race next year.

Widely recognized as the most important cycling competition in the United States, the event will be an economic and cultural boon for our region.  Last year, an estimated two million fans witnessed one or more phases of the Tour, creating an approximate $200 million statewide economic impact.

The cities of Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, and Agoura Hills have partnered to bring this exciting race to the Conejo Valley.  Our region will play host to both the start and the finish of the Tour's grand finale stage.
